They say that there are 2 things you should do to help you achieve your dreams and goals. First, you should tell people about it, making it harder to bail or quit. Well here I am, what better way to do that than to splash it all over the internet!!!! So the goal………Challenge Wanaka 2010!!!!!! There it is in black and white, now if I fail it is out there for everyone to see.
Beginners Checklist:
- Can I swim? Yes
- Can I ride? Yes
- Can I run? Yes (especially when chased or for free beer)
So far so good, now how hard can it be to string them together???
A bit about me so you know where this journey is starting from. I’m your average kiwi bloke in my mid 30’s. Played a bit of sport, try to keep fit(ish), done a few short triathlons and duathlons when I was a bit younger. I enjoy a drink or two, so the shadow I cast is a little larger than it used to be!!!! Neither of the last two are particularly condusive to finishing, or even starting an Ironman.
So I have set myself a goal, to achieve my dream to finish Challenge Wanaka 2010, Swim 3.8k, Ride 180k, Run 42k……….Piece of Cake!!!!!
This Blog is going to be a record of my journey, the ups, the downs, the laughs, and most definately the tears.
The second thing you should do to help you achieve your dreams and goals, surround yourself with supportive and positive people. On that count I am lucky to have the support of an amazing woman and very special friend, who motivates and inspires me to achieve my dreams.
Good luck You are on the right track – plann well ahead and keep ahead work t the effortowards some small events and invest time – it is worth
Well I hope you keep up with the blogging. I’ve just done a couple of short triathlons in Wellington and have been thinking about aiming for a full Ironman next year. It’s not cheap though as I’ll need to buy a wetsuit (I hired one for last triathlon I did), a road bike (definitely quicker/easier than my mountain bike), and more running shoes (I hear you wear through several pairs of shoes in just the training alone.)
Good luck with it!
